BK3 achieves its minimal sophisticated look from a series of unique elements. The round pull designed by the Buratti brothers is shown in a rubbed oil finish, and introduces ease of use with its softly concave shape. The black painted corten steel fireplace re-imagines the domestic hearth which can be used as a barbeque with charcoal or wood. It features a cast iron plate that folds down from the back of the fire pit that can be used as a cooking surface for breads or pizza. When the cast iron piece is folded up, a grill is exposed which can be used to cook on or simply for atmosphere as a wood burning fireplace. A glass door slides down from the top to close the unit if desired.
This fireplace can be vented for indoor use as well as for outside.
The hood can be re-circulating or vented and finished to match the cabinets. When not in use it folds down. To operate, open the panels and the fan and light automatically go on.
BK3 exemplifies the Living Kitchen concept with elegantly designed bookshelves that provide a transition element connecting the kitchen to the living areas of the home. As shown, they can be used as the opposite sides of the base cabinets or in conjunction with the tall Colonne units.
